2. 1830 SC Census, It is assumed that James Tete was dead by 1830, because of the fact that he is not listed with his family, and that he does not appear afterwards. Note: I have taken a guess on the death place of James Tete - Anderson County, SC, because that was where the family was from and living at the time..

9. 1830 SC Census, Quoting Bobbie Conklin: "On the 1830 census it shows Nancy, 3 males and 3 females. We know about William, John, Jasper, Newton, and Emilia. There didn't seem to be an age group for William, but nevertheless, I believe he was her son. It could be that he was not home at the time. He would have been nineteen at that time." unquote. Thus, there were two other girls besides Emilia.

Descendants of Nathaniel Duncan

Generation No. 1

1. NATHANIEL1 DUNCAN1 was born Abt. 1800 in Henry County, Georgia1, and died Aft. 1844 in Henry County, Georgia1. He married MARY NELMS1,2, daughter of D. NELM and W.. She was born Abt. 1800 in Georgia3, and died Aft. 1880 in High Shoals, Oconee County, Georgia?4.

Notes for NATHANIEL DUNCAN:

Nathan Duncan of Henry County, Ga. was killed when his horse ran under a tree.

Nathaniel? Duncan, m. ca 1822 to Mary Nelms, 1840 Elbert Co. GA, 1860 Newton Co. GA; son Jesse Asberry Duncan b. 1830 GA, d. 1900 Cass Co. TX, m. 1855 Caroline Kirkpatrick in Newton Co. GA.

Typed copy of letter 12/22/1990 from J. Kirk Duncan to his cousin Wanda L. Vice; from Mrs. Wanda Lear Vice, Brownville, TX, 4/20/1997:

This undated letter was in the possession of Uncle Wade Duncan. The presumption is that it was written by a Mary Duncan to a son and daughter-in-law. Another presumption is that Wade gained possession of the letter from an ancestor. If the presumptions are correct, the conclusion is that it was written by Wade's Great Grand Mother Mary Duncan to his Grand Father J.A. Duncan and Grand Mother Caroline Kirkpatrick (Granny). Mary, then, would be the Miss Nelholmes, whose first name Wade's Father J.N. Duncan was unable to remember. The names and birth days would be her childrens'. J.A.'s date of birth is five years earlier than indicated in other family records. The date of writing would be between the dates of the birth of Mary's last child in 1844 and the death of J.A. in 1900.

Family records indicate that Uncle Wade's great grand father was Nathan (Nat) Duncan, who was born in Henry County, Georgia. Wade's Grand Father J.A. (Jessie Asbury) and Grand Mother Caroline Kirkpatrick were, also, born in Henry County, Georgia.

At the time this letter was written, Mary Duncan may have resided at Watkinsville, Oconee County, Georgia.

Near the left bottom of the letter are puzzling letters which appear to be "bd." To the right of "Watkinsville" are letters which appear to be "po." The "po" could mean "post office." The "bd" doesn't suggest a meaning.

The writing suggests a turkey quill and ink and elementary education. To the best of my knowledge it reads:

You rote and wanted the ages

William R. Duncan was born

J W Duncan was born the 10 of May 1824

Sarah Ramindy Duncan was born the 19 December 1827

Note: 1. Sarah Ramindy Duncan's name could be Sarah R. Mindy Duncan or Sarah Amindy Duncan.

2. My presumtion is that "Jephthy" is male and a variation of the Biblical name of "Jephthah."

MAD: The line of Jesse Asberry Duncan is being researched by Mrs. Wanda Lear Vice, Brownville, TX, 4/20/1997. The line of James Washington Duncan is being researched by Mrs. Pat Bankhead, 2701 204th Ave Ct E, Sumner, WA 98390, in 1983 and later. There is a possibility that Nathaniel Duncan is related somehow to John Duncan Sr. (Rev. War) of Elbert Co. GA, being researched by Paul R. Mewborn, Belleville, IL, in 1983 and later; and by Mr. Mike R. Jones Jr., St., Loganville, GA (1983 query in "Family Puzzles") and by Billie N. White, Comer, GA (1996 query in Roots Cellar column of "Genealogical Helper")

This family is sometimes listed as "Dunkin."

Mrs. Seleta E. Teat

Funeral services for Mrs. Seleta Edwards Teat, whose death occurred yesterday morning following an illness of only one day will be held on Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at the grave side in Rose Hill cemetery, Piedmont. Services will be conducted by the Rev. A. E. Smith, pastor of the Glenwood Mills Methodist church, Easley, of which Mrs. Teat was a member, will be assisted by the Rev. R. M. Teat, of Bates Street Extension, American Spinning company, and having become suddenly ill on Tuesday. She was 86 years of age, and was a Georgian by birth, having been reared near Elberton, and was the widow of the late Jasper T. Teat, who died six years ago.

In addition to her son, J. N. Teat, she is survived by two daughters; Mrs. S. L. Goldsmith, of Piedmont, and Mrs. Joe Williams, of Easley.

One brother, W. C. Edwards, of Toccoa, Ga., also survives as do 23 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
